Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a Speech Pathologist?

No – You do not need a referral to see a Speech Pathologist. You can contact us directly to make an appointment.

However, if you are planning to claim a Medicare rebate, a referral from your GP under a care plan (Chronic Disease Management) may be required.

Speech therapy can benefit people of all ages.

For children, signs may include not meeting their expected communication milestones for their age, having trouble being understood, limited vocabulary for their age, difficulty following directions, stuttering, challenges with social skills, difficulties with literacy/reading skills and/or feeding or swallowing difficulties (e.g. picky eaters).

For adults, speech therapy can help with functional communication, social communication, cognitive communication difficulties, difficulties following a stroke or brain injury, changes in voice, trouble in finding words, stuttering, challenges with memory and communication as well as swallowing.

If you are unsure, we are always happy to have a chat to see how we can help.
